For what it’s worth, I asked before taking these pictures.

In the past thirty minutes I have learned:

  1. Chickens are descended from birds with a much cooler name.
  2. I went years eating maja blanca from the sari-sari store without knowing that it had roots in sick people porridge turned legitimate dessert.
  3. An article exists for a dreaded childhood nickname I suffered with multiple definitions, of which I enjoy bullet point #3 the most.

I took a little bit of a break from listing concerts on this blog and took an even longer break from updating the blog with meaningful (?) posts. I’ll be better about it soon. For now, here’s a picture of a homeless man yelling at me in the park.

I have some exciting things coming up to start the month of May including a graduate recital, another Cadillac Moon show, and a multitude of other things to choose from! We’ve got something for everyone here :)

First thing’s first:

NYU Contemporary Music Ensemble – Friday May 4, 8PM Frederick Loewe Theatre
The NYU Contemporary Music Ensemble is having its final show of the year! See encores of pieces by Ruben Naeff, Tim Hansen and Matt Frey as well as newly learned pieces by Timo Andres and Melinda Wagner! Loewe Theatre is at 35 West 4th Street in Manhattan and admission is free!

Wall to Wall Gertrude Stein – Saturday May 5, 5PM and 8PM Symphony Space
I’m playing two sets in Symphony Space’s Wall to Wall Gertude’s Paris Festival! The 5PM set is with Nouveau Classical Project and the 8PM set is with jazz vocalist Gregory Generet. More info here!

Cadillac Moon is performing Ethan Pakchar’s try again and I’m performing his solo violin piecewatermelon!

NYU New Music Ensemble – Monday May 7, 8:00 PM
I’m performing Jeffrey Hass’s Unstrung for violin and interactive electronics at Frederick Loewe Theatre!

Cadillac Moon Ensemble x Random Access Music!

In addition to that, Cadillac Moon Ensemble has another concert of premieres coming up! In a set titled ‘Lucky Number Generator,’ we’ll be premiering works by Allen Schulz, Gilbert Galindo, Wang Jie, and David Fetherolf – we’ll also perform two recent works by Manly Romero and Stefan Weisman.

MONO+GRAPHIC III @ Cervantes Institute: Thursday April 19th, 7:00PM

I’ll be playing Sonia Megias’s Skins #1in a concert that moves through several rooms of the Cervantes Institute – I’ll be in the library! The concert kicks off a three day exhibition of Sonia’s graphic scores, which are as beautiful as the music they create :) Facebook link here, event link here.

Mix Nouveau Concerts

Over the past year, I paired NYU composers and performers together and told them to make a new solo or small chamber piece! This year’s Mix Nouveau has spawned 21 new workswhich will be premiered in two concerts! Admission is free to both and these pieces and performers all sound fantastic!

The Nouveau Classical Project presents an evening of music, music-inspired fashion, and elegant cocktails. We’re in the intimate Leonard Nimoy Thalia for the concert, and we’ll have an awesome reception sponsored by St-Germain afterward! Tuesday April 10th, 9:00 PM – String Power Composer/Occupier Concert @ Exapno

We’ll be playing pieces for string ensemble by Tom Swafford, Rzewski’s Coming Together and a new piece by Joey Molinaro. You’re also invited to play in Joey’s piece! After the performance there will be a loosely-facilitated discussion over beer about the works performed and the role of composers in resistance/ revolution/ occupy movement. Wednesday April 11th, 9PM – MONO+GRAPHIC @ Experimental Intermedia Foundation

I’ll be playing Skins by Sonia Megías in a concert curated by composer Phil Niblock! It’s a cute little piece where I show you all the sounds I can make without my bow :) Experimental Intermedia Foundation is at 224 Centre St # 3 in SoHo.

Saturday April 14th, 8PM – mise-en @ Tenri Cultural Center

Ensemble mise-en will be performing works by David Rakowski, Claude Vivier, Charles Ives and Harrison Birtwistle! Tenri is at 43A West 14th Street. More information here!
